ForteDeck Privacy Policy
Effective Date: April 1, 2026 | Version 1.1 (April 11, 2026)
Douce AI LLC ("Douce AI", "we", "our", or "us") operates the ForteDeck: ABRSM Music Terms mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information Stored Locally on Your Device
The App stores the following data locally on your device only. This data is never transmitted to our servers:
- Study progress — flashcard performance, review history, and learning box levels
- User preferences — selected difficulty level (ABRSM Grade 1–5), daily streak count, and onboarding status
- Purchase status — whether you have purchased the "Remove Ads" option
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, location, or any other personally identifiable information directly.
1.2 Information Collected by Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services that may collect certain information:
- Google AdMob — displays banner advertisements in the App. AdMob may collect device identifiers, IP address, and ad interaction data (impressions and clicks). Because our App is tagged as child-directed, personalized advertising is disabled and only contextual, family-safe ads are shown. AdMob's data collection is limited to what is necessary to serve contextual advertisements and falls under the "support for internal operations" exception under COPPA (16 C.F.R. § 312.2). For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy.
- Apple App Store / Google Play Store — processes in-app purchase transactions for the "Remove Ads" feature. Purchase data is handled entirely by Apple or Google under their respective privacy policies.
- SKAdNetwork (iOS only) — Apple's privacy-preserving ad attribution framework, used to measure ad campaign effectiveness without identifying individual users. SKAdNetwork data is aggregated by Apple and delivered with a random time delay, making individual user attribution impossible. No personally identifiable information is shared.
App Tracking Transparency (iOS) — On iOS, Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework requires apps to request permission before tracking users across other companies' apps and websites. Because ForteDeck is tagged as child-directed and does not engage in cross-app tracking, the App does not display an ATT permission prompt. Personalized advertising and cross-app tracking are disabled by default.
1.3 Third-Party Cross-Site Tracking
Google AdMob, as a third-party advertising service, may collect information about your interactions across different apps and websites over time for the purpose of serving contextual advertisements. Because our App is tagged as child-directed, cross-context behavioral advertising is disabled. You can further limit ad tracking through your device settings:
- iOS: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking
- Android: Settings > Google > Ads
1.4 Website Hosting Notice
This privacy policy page is hosted on the Douce AI website (douce.ai), which uses its own analytics and tracking technologies (including Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager). Data collection on this website is described in the Douce AI Privacy Policy. The data practices described in this document apply specifically to the ForteDeck App itself.
2. How We Use Information
The locally stored data is used solely to:
- Track your flashcard learning progress and display it within the App
- Remember your preferences and settings
- Maintain your daily study streak
- Remember your ad-free purchase status
Information collected by third-party services is used for:
- Serving contextual, family-safe advertisements (Google AdMob)
- Processing in-app purchase transactions (Apple/Google)
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes. The only external data transmission occurs through:
- Google AdMob for serving advertisements (can be removed by purchasing "Remove Ads")
- Apple or Google for processing in-app purchases
4. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
ForteDeck is designed for music students, including children under 13. We take children's privacy seriously:
- We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children or any users
- The App is tagged as child-directed under COPPA, which disables personalized advertising
- Only contextual, family-safe advertisements are displayed
- No user accounts, registration, or sign-in is required
- No behavioral tracking or user profiling is performed
- AdMob's limited data collection (device identifiers for ad serving) falls under COPPA's "support for internal operations" exception (16 C.F.R. § 312.2)
Parental Rights
Parents and guardians have the right to:
- Review any information collected from their child — because we do not collect or store personal information on our servers, there is no stored data to review
- Request deletion of any information — locally stored data can be deleted by resetting progress in the App's Settings or by uninstalling the App
- Refuse further collection — you may disable ad tracking through your device settings or purchase "Remove Ads" to eliminate AdMob's data collection entirely
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to address the issue.
5. Data Storage and Security
- All user data (study progress, preferences) is stored exclusively on your device
- No data is stored on external servers or in the cloud
- Data is protected by your device's built-in security (encryption at rest)
- We do not have access to any of your locally stored data
6. Data Retention
- Local data (study progress, preferences, purchase status) — retained on your device until you reset progress in Settings or uninstall the App
- AdMob data (device identifiers, ad interactions) — retained by Google in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy and data retention practices
- Purchase data — retained by Apple or Google in accordance with their respective privacy policies
7. Data Deletion
- You can reset all study progress at any time from the App's Settings screen using "Reset All Progress"
- Uninstalling the App permanently deletes all locally stored data
- Since we do not store any data on our servers, there is no additional data to request deletion of
- To opt out of AdMob's data collection, purchase "Remove Ads" or adjust your device's ad tracking settings
8. No User Accounts
The App does not require or support user accounts. All usage is anonymous. No email, password, or other login credentials are ever collected.
9. Your California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), provides you with specific rights regarding your personal information:
- Right to Know — you may request that we disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources, the business purposes for collection, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it
- Right to Delete — you may request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions
- Right to Correct — you may request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing — we do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Because the App is child-directed, personalized advertising is disabled
- Right to Non-Discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your privacy rights
- Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information — you may limit the use of sensitive personal information, if collected, to purposes necessary to provide our Services. We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined under the CPRA
- Right to Appeal — if we deny your privacy request, you have the right to appeal our decision. To submit an appeal, please contact us at the address below with the subject line "Privacy Request Appeal" and we will respond within 60 days
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the address below. We will verify your identity and respond within 45 days as required by law.
Categories of Personal Information
In the preceding 12 months, the following categories of personal information may have been collected through the App by third-party services:
| Category | Purpose | Third Party |
|---|---|---|
| Identifiers (device identifiers, IP address) | Serving contextual advertisements | Google AdMob |
| Internet or electronic network activity (ad interactions) | Serving and measuring ad performance | Google AdMob |
| Commercial information (purchase status) | Processing in-app purchases | Apple / Google |
We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined under the CPRA.
10. California "Shine the Light"
Under California Civil Code Section 1798.83, California residents may request information about our disclosure of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. We do not share personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes.
11. Do Not Track Signals
The App does not currently respond to "Do Not Track" (DNT) browser signals. Google AdMob may use device identifiers for contextual advertising purposes as described above. You can limit ad tracking through your device's privacy settings or by purchasing "Remove Ads."
12. Third-Party Links
The App does not contain links to third-party websites or services, except for advertisements served by Google AdMob (when ads are enabled). Your interaction with those advertisements is governed by the third party's own terms and privacy policies.
13. International Data Transfers
The App is operated from the United States. Google AdMob, which serves advertisements within the App, may process data on servers located outside your jurisdiction. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of information collected by third-party services to the United States or other countries where those services operate. Data protection laws in those countries may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. For material changes, we will provide notice through a prominent notice within the App or on our website. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
